On Account of Your Beauty…

“Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.”

Ezekiel 28:17

Lucifer apparently became so impressed with his own beauty, intelligence, power, and position that he began to desire for himself the honor and glory that belonged to God alone. The sin that corrupted Lucifer was self-generated pride.

Apparently, this represents the actual beginning of sin in the universe—preceding the fall of the human Adam by an indeterminate time. Sin originated in the free will of Lucifer in which—with full understanding of the issues involved—he chose to rebel against the Creator.

I read this today on christianity.com found when I googled satan wanting to be admired. Literally, this has been me. Has this not been every single one of us? Why else do we strive for worldly success, expensive possessions, perfection in beauty and all we do? Admiration, validation, the desire to bring ourselves glory. UGH!! I know it’s ugly, right? That doesn’t make it less true.

It goes on to say that his name was Lucifer which meant morning star but then was changed to satan, which means adversary. Every single one of us are adversaries to our God and Savior each instance we do not submit to His will and His authority. Each time we make our own plans, each time we live exactly the same as the world, each time we don’t even bother to consult Him with our agenda, each time we don’t bother to align our lives with His word, the each times are endless.

Anyone honest enough to admit this is probably every day? I know it is for me-maybe not even in an intentional rebellious manner, but definitely in my flesh and the result is the same. This was eye opening to me…ugly, but eye opening. This is not who I want to be…and it will be a daily battle of my flesh. Praise God, when we see this ugly truth, His grace is sufficient. We can humble ourselves and go boldly before Him and ask the Only One who can change us to rid us of our pride. We can ask Him to search our hearts and continue to reveal places in us that need to be surrendered…He’s waiting.  He wants us to be made new, he wants chains broken, He wants us living in freedom. The longer (or more) we do our own thing, the longer (or more) we are not doing His.
