Our Agenda

On my mind…fulfilling our own agenda. How we can want something so bad that we cannot see around the corner as to the consequences of our choices. How the enemy can use our own insecurities to make us crazy driven for validation in countless things that truly have no merit of worth.

Unforgiveness is fulfilling our own agenda, all the while poisoning our souls. Chasing money, material possessions and status–again, fulfilling our own agenda…all the while often not seeing what matters most. Letting our past stir a tenacity in us to be in the bondage of self protection, of performance and perfectionism, of addiction and co-dependency…all about us. The bondage of bitterness, suspicion, the anxiety of just not wanting to “miss” anything and make sure we know-it all lies to us telling us that way, we will be one step ahead. In reality, we can be so consumed, we are missing out on a whole lot of good stuff, always looking for the negative. Demanding “our” way, our rights, our fair share, making sure we are heard and acknowledged–these things scream insecurity and bondage.

All of these agenda items come with promises of worth, of validation, of security, of finding happiness in “taking care of me”. Lies…all lies. There is no freedom in any of these things. None of this truly makes us better, makes us happy, makes us more protected, makes us…peaceful.
His schemes are endless, they are targeted and manipulated and personal…and we fall for them, often without a thought. As long as we are self centered, self absorbed, self indulgent, self motivated, the enemy keeps us busy, even exhausting ourselves for our own agenda, which never satisfies. If it did, wouldn’t some of us be there by now?? Haven’t we made more money and bought more things? Haven’t we demanded our rights and our way, haven’t we built walls of self protection and unforgiveness? Did it make us “happy”? Did it make us worth more? Did we stop…or get back on the hamster wheel for more promises from the enemy? He is prowling like a lion, carefully orchestrating his tactics to ensure our bondage.

The only agenda that truly fulfills is SELFLESS. No more “making sure” we are protected, “making sure” we are heard, “making sure” we are noticed and validated. Letting down those walls and trusting our Savior to care for us. Not chasing money and material possessions knowing that is not the real treasure. Lavishing grace and forgiveness frees US. Nothing satisfies our longing for value and worth except knowing our identity in Christ. Knowing we are royalty, knowing we are precious and honored in His sight, knowing He uses all things for good, knowing we can rest in Him and that no matter what our circumstances look like or the events of this world, the victory is His. We are children of the Most High King and nothing on our own agenda remotely compares to that!
